Profile: Israel Maya has been a cantor for over 18 years. He received training from one of his mentors in the field of Hazanut from Rabbi / Cantor Isak Alaluf which taught Israel the Turkish style of Sephardic prayer. Formal cantorial studies continued in 1988 at the school for cantors, Hechal Shelomo under the direction of world renown cantor Yigal Ben Haim and Ezra Barnea in Jerusalem. He simultaneously received voice training from opera singer/ cantor Moshe Dirusinsky. Upon his return to the states, Israel continued voice lessons for several years from the School of Conservatory in North Miami Beach, FL. To date Israel has the experience of working with 6 different Kehilot including working with the youth and a synagogue in Santo Domingo. Aside from being a cantor, Israel practices Hypnotherapy in his office in North Miami Beach performs seminars and creates programs to help his patients with personal growth.
